Cy-Fair's Ogwumike named national girls basketball player of the year


Cy-Fair leading acquires top honorCy-Fair standout Nneka Ogwumike was named the Gatorade national misses basketball game participant of the twelvemonth Thursday.

The Gatorade Player of the Year is an awarding that awards a participant for her public presentation on the basketball game tribunal and in the classroom. Ogwumike have a 3.8 GPA and is headed to Stanford.

Ogwumike, a center, led the Bobcats to state for the 2nd sequent twelvemonth and they defeated DeSoto to win Cy-Fair's first state statute title in girls' basketball. Ogwumike was named the most valuable player of the Class 5A state tournament.

"I experience like it's all a dream," Ogwumike said. "This past calendar month have been brainsick — winning state, then getting this award. It's all really an honor."

Ward to play for Team United States Seven Lakes WR/CB Deems Taylor Ward have been selected to stand for Team United States at the inaugural germanium Global Challenge in Kawasaki, Japan.

Led by caput manager Jeff Scuraan of Santa Rita High School (Tucson, Ariz.), Team United States is selected from 12 states and 27 high schools.
